Westcoat SC-42 Clear Water-Based Acrylic Concrete Sealer | 5 Gallon
About
SC-42 is designed to seal porous concrete, acrylic cement, brick, tile and some previously painted surfaces where a protective finish is desired. It is excellent for use as a general concrete sealer. SC-42 can be used on driveways, patios and walkways, as it fares well with tire traffic. SC-42 can be used in interior and exterior applications and can be used over Westcoat’s SC-10 Acrylic Topcoat to add gloss

Instructions
Inspection
Surfaces must be structurally sound and sloped for drainage. The surface must be dry and free of oil, grease, curing agents, dirt, dust or other foreign material that may prevent proper adhesion. The surface must be porous or rough enough to allow the product to soak in.
Moisture
All concrete should be tested for moisture before applying a seamless coating. If moisture emissions exceed 5 lbs/1000 square feet (ASTM F1869) or if the relative humidity (RH) exceeds 75% (ASTM F2170), contact the manufacturer before application.
Preparation
For concrete, the surface should be at least 2500 psi and have cured for a minimum of 28 days. Prepare concrete to a profile equal to CSP 2-3. You may mechanically profile by scrubbing with a nylogrit brush on a floor machine (use TSP or degreaser if necessary) and follow by power-washing. Prior to starting work, test existing concrete slab for efflorescence, moisture and hydrostatic pressure. Vacuum surface entirely and ensure that any dust or contaminates are removed, as these will deter adhesion.
As a sealer for ALX™, MACoat™ or Texture-Crete®, apply directly over the textured surface. If texture has been left for more than 72 hours or it has become dirty, clean as needed prior to application of SC-42. Allow to fully dry. Note: The most common reason for coating failure is due to lack of preparation.
Mixing
Stir prior to use.
Thinning
SC-42 is ready to use straight from the container. SC-42 may be thinned with up to 25% water. Thinned material may require additional coats.
Coverage
Will vary depending on the surface. Up to 400 square feet per gallon on a smooth surface and between 250-350 square feet per gallon on a rough surface. Product performs best if applied in thin, even coats.
Applying Product
Before beginning any project, it is recommended that a mock-up be installed, to help indicate the overall look and finish and to determine compatibility to the substrate.
Neatly cut-in all edges with a brush and roll the center using a ½ to ¾ inch nap, good quality roller cover. Be sure to spread evenly in a “V” pattern rolling in both directions. Cutting slightly with water and applying thin coats will help avoid streaks in direct sun. SC-42 may also be applied with an airless or pump type sprayer. Apply in thin coats and avoid puddling.
Use over SC-10 by applying a very thin coat using the above methods. CA-30 Safe-Grip additive may be used to help gain traction.
Dry Time
Allow minimum 2 hours between coats and 6-8 hours before light foot traffic. Normal traffic may be permitted after 24 hours. Allow 72 hours before vehicle traffic. Allow 72 hours before placing heavy objects on the surface (use protective trays for pots and plants).
Clean Up
Uncured material should be removed with soap and warm water. Cured material should be removed mechanically or with an environmentally-safe solvent.
Limitations
- This product is designed for professional use only
- Do not apply at temperatures below 50°F or above 90°F. Hot or cold weather may affect dry times
- Be sure to do adequate surface preparation
- Rain will wash away uncured acrylic products. If inclement weather threatens, cover deck to protect new application
- Surface will become more slippery with this sealer
- Skid resistant additives are available
- Apply only over compatible water based acrylics and bare, porous surfaces such as concrete and pavers
- Do not apply over glazed tile or hard fired bricks
- Do not apply over natural stone which is too dense and smooth
- Not recommended over Acid Stain without test area
- Do a test area before you begin
- Do not allow any Westcoat products to freeze
