Westcoat TC-65 Quartz Sand | 50 lb Bag

About

Colored quartz that brings texture, traction, and color to seamless floors

TC-65 is silica sand coated with resin and colorants, sized in a medium broadcast grade. In most systems, it's broadcast to refusal into a wet base coat, then the excess is swept up and topcoats lock it in place. In Epoxy Mortar Quartz, it's mixed with epoxy and troweled into a dense, high-build mortar base. Either way, the color comes from the quartz itself. The result is a speckled, multi-tone floor that doesn't need a pigmented topcoat.

You'll find TC-65 in Westcoat's quartz floor systems. Dubro Quartz is used in showrooms, restaurants, garages, and commercial kitchens. Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ handle commercial kitchens, restrooms, veterinary offices, and kennels. Epoxy Mortar Quartz is built for manufacturing plants, warehouses, and other heavy-duty floors with forklift traffic.

Westcoat Systems Using TC-65 Quartz Sand

TC-65 is the decorative quartz layer in Westcoat's quartz floor systems. Most broadcast it into the wet base coat, while Epoxy Mortar Quartz mixes it with epoxy and trowels it into place.

Epoxy Floor Systems

  • Dubro Quartz | Broadcast twice into clear EC-36 epoxy coats, then sealed with a clear EC-36 topcoat
  • Epoxy Mortar Quartz | Mixed with EC-36 epoxy and troweled into a 3/16"–1/4" mortar base, then sealed and topcoated with EC-36

Choosing Your Color

Color can vary between batches and with the system and topcoats used, so the colors shown here are for reference only. We recommend applying a sample on site before beginning your project.

    How-To

Application Instruction Overview for Westcoat TC-65 Quartz Sand

IMPORTANT! Before You Begin: Review the complete Westcoat TC-65 Technical Data Sheet (TDS), Safety Data Sheet (SDS), and the system specification for the system you're installing before beginning. The information below is a brief overview and does not replace Westcoat's complete application instructions. Apply a test area on site to confirm color and texture before beginning the full application.

Step 1 – Prepare the Surface and Base Coat

    • Prepare, patch, and prime the concrete as the system specification requires
    • Dubro Quartz: Apply the EC-36 base coat at 125–150 sq ft per gallon
    • Temper-Crete SLQ: Place and pin roll the SL coat, then let it sit ~6–10 minutes at 72°F before broadcasting
    • Temper-Crete RTQ: Place and backroll the RT coat, then let it sit ~4–8 minutes at 72°F before broadcasting
    • Epoxy Mortar Quartz: Apply EC-12 Clear Epoxy Primer at 250–300 sq ft per gallon

Step 2 – Blend Your Bags

    • Color can vary from batch to batch
    • Box multiple batches together before application to reduce variation

Step 3 – Apply the Quartz Sand

    • Broadcast systems: Broadcast into the wet coat to refusal, until no shiny or bare spots remain
    • Dubro Quartz: Approximately 100 sq ft per 50 lb bag
    • Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ: Approximately 0.8–1.0 lbs per sq ft, broadcast up into the air so it falls evenly, and do not pin roll once broadcast
    • Place broadcast sand carefully and evenly to prevent ridges and uneven coverage
    • Epoxy Mortar Quartz: Mix EC-36 at 2 parts A to 1 part B for 3–4 minutes, combine with 100 lbs of TC-65, and trowel into the wet primer at 45 sq ft per mix at 1/4" or 60 sq ft per mix at 3/16"

Step 4 – Apply a Second Broadcast When Required

    • Dubro Quartz: Apply a second EC-36 coat at 75–100 sq ft per gallon and broadcast evenly at approximately 100 sq ft per 50 lb bag
    • Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ: If the first broadcast was uneven, apply an additional broadcast into EC-36

Step 5 – Finish and Seal

    • Dubro Quartz: After the epoxy cures, sand, grind, or scrape as needed
    • Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ: Allow ~8–10 hours at 72°F; colder temperatures extend dry time
    • Broadcast systems: Sweep up excess sand and vacuum the floor clean
    • Epoxy Mortar Quartz: Sand, grind, and repair imperfections, then apply the EC-36 seal coat at 75 sq ft per gallon
    • Apply the system's topcoats as specified

    Installation Limitations

    • Designed for professional use only
    • TC-65 is designed for interior applications, and the Westcoat systems it's used in are for interior use only
    • Do not allow Westcoat products to freeze
    • Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ: Broadcasting too early can trap air, and broadcasting too late can cause poor aggregate adhesion

    FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About Westcoat TC-65 Quartz Sand

How much TC-65 do I need?

It depends on the system. Dubro Quartz uses two broadcasts at approximately 100 sq ft per 50 lb bag each, so plan on roughly two bags per 100 sq ft. Temper-Crete SLQ and RTQ call for 0.8–1.0 lbs per sq ft, or roughly 50–62 sq ft per bag. Epoxy Mortar Quartz uses 100 lbs (two bags) per mix, covering 45 sq ft at 1/4" or 60 sq ft at 3/16". These are estimates, so check the system specification for your project.

Why does TC-65 take longer to ship?

TC-65 is a special order item, so it may take up to 10 business days to ship. If your project has a firm start date, plan your order around that lead time.

Will the color match from bag to bag?

Color can vary from batch to batch. Westcoat recommends boxing multiple batches together before application to reduce variation.

Does TC-65 make a floor slip resistant?

TC-65 adds texture that gives the floor slip resistance. The final texture depends on the topcoats. In Dubro Quartz, additional topcoats or broadcasts may be needed to adjust it.

    Can TC-65 be used outdoors?

TC-65 is designed for interior applications, and the Westcoat systems it's used in are for interior use only.
