Westcoat SC-65 Water-based CLEAR Polyurethane Concrete Sealer
Westcoat SC-65 Semi-Gloss used as the sealer on the Westcoat 11-10 Custom System
About
Westcoat Water-based Polyurethane Concrete Sealer SC-65 is a two component, high solids, water-based, polyurethane sealer available in three popular sheens; gloss, semi-gloss, and flat. SC-65 provides protection equal to that of traditional urethanes with fewer health and environmental concerns and the UV, mar, and chemical resistance of this coating allows it to outperform most other types of sealers.
SC-65 is specified as the finish coat in moderate to severe chemical environments or in heavy traffic areas. Due to the low odor of the water-based polyurethane, it is user friendly and ideal for both interior and exterior application. Apply SC-65 as a sealer over plain concrete, Texture-Crete, SC-10 Acrylic Topcoat, stained concrete flooring and textured epoxy coatings. Use on decorative floors, pool decks, patios, garage floors, industrial floors, restaurant floors and automotive service areas.

Instructions
Preparation
Concrete must be clean, dry and free of grease, paint, oil, curing agents, laitance or any foreign material that will prevent proper adhesion. Concrete should be prepared to a minimum surface profile of CSP 2, per ICRI. As a sealer over the ALX™, MACoat™ or Texture-Crete® Systems, apply directly over the textured surface. If texture has been left for more than 24 hours or it has become dirty, clean as needed prior to the application of SC-65.
As a final coat over textured epoxy systems, SC-65 must be applied within 24 hours. If more than 24 hours have passed, lightly abrade the surface and wipe with a solvent, such as denatured alcohol, prior to the application.
Note: The most common reason for coating failure is due to lack of preparation.
Mixing
Premix each component separately. In a clean bucket, mix 3 parts A with 1 part B, by volume, of SC-65. Mix thoroughly with a low speed (200-300 rpm) drill motor for 2-3 minutes. Make sure to scrape the sides and bottom of the container during mixing. For best results, avoid mixing by hand.
Primer
For use as a primer over textured surfaces, SC-65G Gloss or SC-65SG Semi-Gloss may be thinned up to 30% with water. Material must be applied thin and allowed to soak into the substrate, to allow the water to evaporate properly. Do not allow the material to puddle.
Thinning
Thinning is only recommended for use as a primer over concrete or when applying material with a Chapin or pump style sprayer. Thinning is not recommended over smooth and non-porous substrates. Thinning may affect the gloss, sheen and overall appearance of the product.
Coverage
Coverage for the SC-65 is approximately 200 to 650 square feet per gallon.
Smooth Surfaces (such as Liquid Dazzle® or Thin Film 100% Solids): coverage is approximately 400-650 square feet per gallon.
Textured Surfaces (such as Texture-Crete® or diamond ground concrete): coverage is approximately 200-400 square feet per gallon.
Coverage will vary based on the application methods, substrate conditions and overall desired finish.
Applying Product
The SC-65 material may be rolled, sprayed or broomed. For best results, it is recommended to apply SC65 neat, with an airless sprayer over smooth or textured surfaces.
Smooth Surfaces: Immediately after mixing, apply SC-65 onto the substrate. Apply with a squeegee and back roll with a 1/4 to 3/8 inch, high-quality, non-shedding roller cover, being sure to maintain a wet edge. Alternatively, SC-65 can be dipped and rolled, if desired.
Textured Surfaces: SC-65 can be sprayed and back rolled or broomed. It may need to be thinned with up to 30% water, to allow the material to spray properly. Immediately after mixing, pour activated material into the pump sprayer. Spray SC-65 evenly over the surface and promptly back roll with a 3/8 to 1/2 inch, high-quality, non-shedding roller cover or broom with a decorative concrete broom. Alternatively, SC-65 can be dipped and rolled, if desired.
For best results, two thin even coats should be applied. Do not over roll or overwork the material. Material must be applied thin and do not allow the material to puddle.
Re-coating
If needed, re-coat within 24 hours of application to ensure adhesion. If a delay occurs, it is recommended that the surface be lightly sanded and wiped with a solvent, such as denatured alcohol, just before reapplication.
Dry Time
You may re-coat as soon as the surface is dry to the touch or in about 4-8 hours. Light foot traffic may be permitted in 12 hours, normal traffic in 24 hours and vehicle traffic in 72 hours. All times are based on average temperature of 70F degrees and 50% humidity.
Clean Up
Uncured material can be removed with a solvent. Cured material can only be removed mechanically.
Limitations
- This product is designed for professional use only.
- Be sure to do adequate surface preparation.
- Do not apply in temperatures below 50°F or above 80°F. Hot or cold weather may effect dry times. Avoid application if surface temperature is above 80°F.
- Surface will become more slippery when sealed. Skid resistant additives are available.
- Do not apply over damp surfaces.
- SC-65 must be cured for a minimum of 48 hours before coming in contact with water.
- Do not apply SC-65F Flat directly over concrete.
- Do not allow any Westcoat product to freeze.
